Year 2003
Dear Office of Personnel:
Eight unique years in the Englewood Public School system--I held positions from entry level to administration--have
provided me an opportunity to gain useful insight into the role of an administrator. I hereby apply for the position of
Principal / Assistant Principal.
While preparing for a Bachelor of Arts degree, I served as a long-term substitute
teacher of reading, a teacher assistant, and later as a disciplinarian. After graduation, a Lincoln School second grade was my first assignment. Two years followed as technology teacher
at Quarles School. Part of my responsibility there was helping teachers infuse
technology into their lessons. The 2002-03 school year found me at Cleveland School, where I taught the fifth grade transition students. Rounding out my entry
level-to-administration experience, this summer I am serving as the director of the Extended Year Program. Thus, I have first-hand
knowledge of all the aspects of instruction.
My higher education includes a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Arts in
Educational Leadership. During my studies, we were each given many opportunities to apply the learnings to concrete situations
wherever we were employed.
Because I am an Englewood resident, I have had many occasions to work with parents and other residents
on programs, mostly church-sponsored, such as career days, Aids awareness, and drug use prevention. Furthermore, various churches
called on me to conduct sessions on leadership skill development and techniques of group organization.
I believe I possess the necessary combination of individuality, a willingness to serve
others, and a collaborative spirit to be a successful school administrator.
I look forward to meeting with you to discuss in detail my qualifications for the
position of Assistant Principal.
Sincerely yours,
